Windows detects no mouse clicks inside a small area of screen

A strange problem has developed on my Windows 11 machine. When I'm in Windows, if I click inside a certain area in the centre of the screen, the mouse click does not register, and if the cursor should change based on the content I'm hovering over, it doesn't. Here is a demonstration of what I mean. In this GIF, I move my mouse into the area and attempt to select some text, but nothing happens. When I then move my mouse out of the area, the cursor changes to the correct "text selector" cursor and I can select the text fine.

    :)

The mouse wheel and clicks (left, right and middle) don't work while the mouse is in this area. There is a short delay after Windows startup before this problem begins, and it also doesn't occur on the Windows lock screen. I have two displays, but only my primary display is affected. How can I get my cursor to work properly again?

I had the same problem. In my case it was a malfunctioning of the AVIRA virus scanner and the area was in the top left corner of the screen. It obviously tried to open an ad window but the script got stuck.

I installed another virus scanner, deinstalled AVIRA and now everything is fine again.

It cost me about 4 hours to figure out what was actually going on... :-(

MOUSE NOT DETECTING ON INSTALLATION WINDOW

    Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better?

    • What is the make and model of your system?
    • Have you tried to use this mouse on another System?
    • Have you tried any other mouse on the system you are getting issues?

I would suggest you restart your system and uninstall and reinstall the mouse drivers.

Follow these steps to uninstall and reinstall the driver:

      • Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

      • Click on “Device Manager” from that list.

      • Search for the “Mice and other pointing devices”
from the device list and expand it, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may
select that and then remove the corrupted drivers from the computer.

      • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and restart the computer.
Once it gets uninstalled I would suggest you to go to the manufacturer website and install the latest driver from there and check.

Hope this information helps. Reply to the post with updated status of the issue to assist you further.
