Windows 10: Windows dictation is no longer working for me.

The windows dictation that comes up when you press Windows+H is no longer working for me it was working about two weeks ago. It throws up an error saying: “Something went wrong. Try again in a little while”.Things I have tried:Checking that my microphone is working I have tested this extensively and it is working fine.Trying other voice to text apps Google voice-to-text works great on the same computer.Restarting my computer.Trying “Windows Speech Recognition” this appears to be a different voice to text app on my PC, but is garbage compared to Windows+H Dictation or Google voice-to-tex

Dictation not working.

Please provide some additional information, so that we can assist you better.

1. Are you using dictation in Windows or Office application?
   
2. Since when are you facing this issue?
   
3. Did you make any changes to the computer before this issue started?
   

I suggest you to follow the below mentioned steps:

Step 1: To dictate text:

1. Open Speech Recognition by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking Windows Speech Recognition.

2. Say "start listening" or click the Microphone button to start the listening mode.

3. Open the program you want to use or select the text box you want to dictate text into.

4. Say the text that you want dictate.

Dictation - Random Capitilization

Hi TFLJ,

It's possible that Dictation listens and analyzes your words in phrases or context clues. It is important to state the word clearly.

By the way, since when did this behavior start? Have you made any changes or installed any updates on your computer before this issue?

In order for us to sort this out, I suggest setting the Dictation to make all the letters in a word lowercase. Once this is enabled, try dictating again and see if it still randomly capitalizes letters or words.

If the issue persists, then it is best that you train again your PC to recognize your speech. Follow these steps:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Click Ease of Access > Speech Recognition.
3. Under Configure your Speech Recognition experience, click the link Train your computer to better understand you option.
4. Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

Easy Dictation Into Windows 10 eMail?

I understand your concern about accessing the Microphone/ Cortana to dictate the mails.

What is the make and model of your device?

I suggest you to try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run Search and Indexing Troubleshooter.

Follow the steps given below to run Search and Indexing Troubleshooter.

  Type Troubleshooting in the Search box from the desktop.
  
• 
  Select the Troubleshooting option.
  
• 
  Select View All option and select the
  Search and Indexing.
  
• 
  Click on Next to perform the Search and Indexing troubleshooter and follow the steps.
  

Method 2: I suggest you to search for the latest drivers for your device from the Microsoft website, try to download all the updates and check if it helps.
