Windows 10: Windows does not shut down completely

Windows does not shut down completely and getting the error :" The embedded controller EC did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.' EVENT ID 13

I have already updated the bios to the latest version and problem remain same.

Windows 10 is unable to complete shut down

We suggest doing these troubleshooting steps below:

Method 1. Hard Reset

• Shut down your computer.
• Remove the cable and wires connected to your computer.
• Press the Power button for 10 seconds to completely drain your device.
• Check if there's any changes.

Method 2. Shutdown trick.

• Press Windows key.
  
• Press and hold Shift.
• Click the Power icon.
• Select and click Shutdown.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

W 10 will not shut down completely

I have not changed the Intel Search Engine to a previous version as suggested, so I cannot say whether it works for my computer or not.

What bothers me is that after Windows updates when my computer is on and I select reboot now instead of 3 a.m., the shut down and reboot process works fine. So, with my logic, I wonder how it can shut down completely after an update, but not when I shut
down at the end of a normal day. I feel like the ability is there, but a step is missing.
