Windows 10: Windows explorer constantly consuming 30-35% CPU! How to stop this?

My Windows 10 Pro system recently developed the nasty habit that there always is a Windows Explorer task running that consumes 30-35% CPU (on a 2-core+HT=4 virtual cores) system - a Microsoft Surface Pro laptop/tablet.

This causes heavy drain on battery and causes the vent to run high speed all the time, which is quite annoying!

This process typically starts running within minutes after switching the system on and it keeps running even if I have NO more Explorer window open (except the desktop of course). If I kill it (which does NOT cause the desktop to disappear and restart - so it's obviously NOT the desktop instance of WinExplorer) it also very often, though not always, comes back.

What could cause this? I haven't identified any pattern or trigger that somewhat reliably causes this, yet. Any idea anyone?

PS.: Please spare me the usual "run sfc /scannow" and "scan for viruses" responses! Done that already and I am pretty sure, it's not an infection but rather some bug or misconfiguration.

HELP - System and compressed memory constantly at 35% CPU


Hi,

I an=m having an issue with System and compressed memory constantly using at 35% CPU, resulting in the fans on my laptop running all the time and being very noisy.

I have read:

and i have also tried adjusting the pagefile from system managed to Initial 2Gb and Maximum 8Gb, and disabling sleep.

But nothing i do seems to stop this usage, some people seem to report that it goes away after 30 minutes or so, or rebooting a few times seems to sort it out, but nothing seems to be working in my case!!!

Unistack Service Group constantly consuming 30% CPU - what is that?

Hi all,

Since a couple of days I have noticed that Unistack Service Group appeared and consumes around 30% of CPU all the time. When killed, the process restarts. Can not find any place to disable it and I have no idea what it is.

I have a brand new Dell XPS13 with 5th gen i7 processor and up to date Windows 10 system.

Please let me know how to solve this issue. Thanks in advance!
