Windows 10: Windows explorer copy and file browsing running slow.

A few months ago windows 10 explorer.exe was running slow when browsing folders and copying files within the C drive. I have a solid state drive and copying files from one location on drive C to another location on drive C would transfer around 20KByte/sec, but only within explorer. If I used another file manager such as 7-zip, copying and browsing files would be extremely fast. I used the Windows 10 "Reset the PC" and the problem went away for a few months and explorer was running fast. Now a few months later the problem is back. This seemed to help. Time will tell. It certainly is more helpful and practical than the suggestion to end toe Explorer task and start a new one.

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows Explorer Replacement?

I don't use Internet Explorer, I meant the thing where you can look at files etc. Hotkey Windows+E. Maybe it's the wrong name in english though. *Stick Out Tongue
