Windows 10: Windows Explorer crashes BEX64 StackHash

Hello everyone, for over a year now my Windows Explorer crashes occasionally, but several times a week and has to restart. During this time I always get a short grey screen. Since then I have searched countless forums and FAQs for solutions, but none of them have helped yet. I have now tried the following: sfc /scannow/restoreHealthdisabled third party context menu functions via ShellExcompletely reinstalled graphics driver via DDUrepair installed Windows 10The problem occurs every now and then when I try to launch Explorer, but never consistently, so I can not cause the error intentionall

It's almost inevitably associated with a 3rd party program hooked into file explorer.
Consider anything that modifies file explorer in any way (e.g. adds buttons, quick access to favourites, changes appearance of the GUI...) and any context menu entry.

You can start by disabling all non-MS context entries, starting with Shellexview (free), and then seeing if the same occurs.

You may find further such entries using the more technical Autoruns (free from MS) where the listing is divided into clear sections to help you find those.

Do not disable MS entries- these programs help you to hide those.

Windows Explorer crashes after copying files to Dropbox folder (BEX64)

I have found an intermittent bug with Dropbox 14.4.19: When I copy some files from my C: drive to a Dropbox folder, then the next time I access a folder on my C: drive, Windows Explorer crashes with that BEX64 thing.

At least, that's what the Event Viewer said, but it didn't give me any more information than that.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

 

Windows explorer crashing

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.
