Windows 10: Windows Explorer Freeze issue

Device: Dell G3


Description of the problem:

Whenever I use explorer through another application ie when downloading something to choose where it is saved, or when clicking browse to find a file, or when I open up explorer myself and navigate to "This PC" or "Downloads" it will say "working on it" and the bar on top will start loading with a green color. When this happens, explorer stops responding, and any application that was using it also freezes. If I navigate elsewhere, it sometimes stops responding and then the icons of files become a white generic one. If I click on them they open without a problem though.


What I have tried:


1 windows + R with "control.exe srchadmin.dll" to re-index

2 sfc /scannow which sometimes found vulnerabilities

3 updated both windows and updates from dell

4 uninstalled both graphics drivers and restarted

5 Settings>update and security>Recovery>Advanced setup and then the Startup repair where the log said there were no issues

6 Settings>update and security>Recovery>reset this pc but keeping my files

7 CHKDSK on both my drives with no issues


Explanation:

The other night I opened up my laptop to clean out the dust in the fans. After doing so is when the problem started. My OS is on an M.2 drive which I took out today and plugged into another device which still had the issues explained above, so I think that rules out everything else other than something wrong with the M.2 or something wrong with my windows installation.


How do I proceed? Is there anything short of a complete reflash of the OS I can try?

Windows Explorer Replacement?

are you running IE7? if not that wouold be my first suggestion,upgrade to ie7 that can fix some stability issues with windows explorer

 

Microsoft Internet Explorer renamed to Windows Internet Explorer ?




Since version 7 of the world`s most popular web browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer was silently renamed to Windows Internet Explorer.Such a step from Microsoft is not a surprise since Internet Explorer is part of the Windows operation system for a long time.Obviously Microsoft corp. wants to state that Internet Explorer is already considered as a part of Windows and not as an external browser (remember the IE and WMP law issues last year!?).

• Have you tried any troubleshooting steps before posting this concern? If yes, what are those?
