Windows 10: Windows Explorer freezing when transfering from SD card

We have a few users at our company unable to consistently transfer files off of an SD card or from a USB SD card adapter. Watching the transfer window, it will go at the normal speed and then just fall off a cliff to 0 MB/s. The only way to recover is to reboot the computer. I've attempted to restart Windows Explorer from the task manager and Windows will not recover. Sometimes on restart, it will hang forcing me to do a force power off.The only common thread I can find is that I am still able to transfer files from SD card on a laptop that has not updated since March. Transferring data from laptop to micro sd card

Hi,

To help you in transferring the files from your PC to your SD card, follow the steps below:

• Connect the micro SD card reader to your computer.
• Plug the micro SD card into the card reader.
• Open the folder that contains files you want to transfer to the SD card.
• Select the files, press and hold "Ctrl" and then, click the files that you want to transfer. Or press "Ctrl + A" to select all the files in the folder.
• Press "Ctrl + C" to copy the files.
• Choose a drive on your SD card and open the folder where you want to store the files.
• Press "Ctrl + V" to paste the files.
• Wait until all files are transferred then, remove the micro SD card from the card reader.

Transferring photos from sd card after Windows 10 upgrade

Please follow bellows steps and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 1:
Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter

• Press Windows Key + R, type Control Panel.
• Type Troubleshooting in the search bar, click on Troubleshooting.
• Click on Hardware and Sound, click on Hardware and Devices.
• Follow the steps from the wizard to run the Troubleshooter.

If the issue still persist refer to the below method.

Method 2: AutoPlay Settings.



I suggest you to follow the steps as shown below and check if it helps.

• Insert in the SD Card.

• Go to Start and type AutoPlay Settings.
• Choose AutoPlay Settings.
• Under your SD Card settings, choose the option "Import Photos and Videos."
• Exit Auto Play Settings and check if the issue persists.

I also suggest you to install latest chipset drivers by downloading from the computer manufacturer’s website.

There are a number of ways for you to transfer your photos or files using your computer. We would like to know more about the issue. Please provide the following information:

• Does the computer detects the SD card when you insert it in the computer?
• Does the SD card show as a drive letter?

In addition to that, we suggest that you follow these below to upload the pictures in Windows 10:

• 
  If your media reader has several slots, there will be several 'Removable Disks' listed. The SD card will be one of them.
  
• 
  Click the correct drive letter, from the menu choose “Explore or Open”, now you would be able to see the directory of the memory card.
  
• 
  You should be able to drag/drop or copy/paste the files to a folder on your hard drive.
