  1. Windows Explorer Getting High CPU, Taskbar Keeps Freezing

I have recently been having an issue with Windows Explorer's CPU usage climbing to a much higher percentage than normal 15-30% and staying at that high of a percentage for extended periods of time. It does this regardless of how many tabs are open, or how many processes are running. When it gets this high, it causes my taskbar to freeze and the taskbar becomes effectively unusable until I restart Windows Explorer via the Task Manager or I click the taskbar and wait for upwards of 30 seconds for it to start working for a short time. 2. Windows Explorer Getting High CPU, Taskbar Keeps Freezing

I have recently been having an issue with Windows Explorer's CPU usage climbing to a much higher percentage than normal (15-30%) and staying at that high of a percentage for extended periods of time. It does this regardless of how many tabs are open, or how many processes are running.

When it gets this high, it causes my taskbar to freeze and the taskbar becomes effectively unusable until I restart Windows Explorer via the Task Manager (or I click the taskbar and wait for upwards of 30 seconds for it to start working for a short time). The CPU percentage builds back up within 30 seconds to a few minutes after it has been restarted. Also, when the percentage gets that high, it is causes my computer to run much slower than normal.

*I was forced to update my computer to Windows 11 (I had my computer sent in for repairs, and without my consent, they updated it to Windows 11 from Windows 10). It was shortly after this when a lot of issues began on my computer, including this one.

  3. KB4023057 update causes Explorer high cpu usage / taskbar to freeze for upto 3mins [Windows 11, 12900k]

    Hi,

Following the KB4023057 windows 11 update windows explorer shows very high CPU usage (10-15%) upon boot and stay like this for around 2-3mins.

During this time the task bar is completely frozen and unresponsive:

[1] using keyboard shortcut i open task manager and RESTART windows explorer then after about a minute the cpu usage drops (well below 1%) and taskbar becomes responsive again :

THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I BOOT

    > if i UNINSTALL KB4023057 : the issue disappears instantly : Taskbar is responsive straight from boot.

After booting, could be 20mins or much later : windows explorer intermittently jumps to high cpu usage again (10% or over) and taskbar freezes for about 2 mins.

    > i have turned off widgets, turned off notifications, news, recent file history. Does NOT make any difference.

I am using ONEDRIVE and cannot/will not turn that off. (it works fine as stated above if i uninstall the update)

the only thing that works is uninstalling KB4023057 : the issue is... after a week or so... windows forces the update back onto the system (even if i pause updates) and then i am back to square on.

This is a new pc build (Alder lake, z690 hero, fresh clean OS, no overclock).

Windows Admins : Please would you suggest a way to permanently disable this update for me OR a fix for the high cpu usage for explorer / taskbar freeze?

    Thank you!
