Windows 10: Windows explorer hangs selecting images or audio files

Since the latest windows updates windows explorer is crashing constantly when I select or open an image or audio file. I disabled all non Microsoft services, deactivated all AutoStart programs, and deactivated non Microsot Shell extensions using Shexview.exe. I also used chkdsk and sfc /scannow. AntiVirus is Defender.It seemd to help for a day. I thought I pinpointed the cause an Adobe pdf handler, but after a reboot the issues happened again. Today Outlook hang when I received an email with a png attachement. I disabled everythign again. I was able to open the email in Outlook, but as soon as

File explorer hangs

Sorry I got nothing more to suggest then.

File explorer hanging is an image issue. So if you can't do a repair upgrade or reset your PC then you can contact microsoft support directly to see if they have further steps but I am sure they are going to tell the same thing i did.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows explorer freezes whenever an image file is selected.

Windows explorer freezes up every time I highlight an image file (jpeg, gif, png, etc)

just clicking on an image file or using the arrow keys to go to an image file causes the freeze.

Otherwise, explorer seems to be working fine. I can go to other folders, click on and open other file types with no issues.

I can click and cursor over and open image files on the desktop with no issues.

I can use Photos to view all of the image files with no issues.

I have tried disabling all non Microsoft startup programs, setting explorer to launch in a separate process, and restoring to an earlier restore point before this was a problem.

I just tried installing and using Explorer++ to see if it has the same issue as Windows Explorer and it does not seem to.
