Windows 10: Windows Explorer has started opening new tab in same window instead of new window

I noticed in the last week after MS updates when I open Windows Explorer more than once it has started opening a new tab in the same window instead of opening a new window. I have checked the view settings and saw that "same window" was now checked. I changed it to new window and rebooted PC. The new setting held but it is still opening a new tab instead of a new window. I verified in the registry that it is set to open new window A2 instead of A0. Please tell me how to fix this or perhaps have it fixed through updates

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

I think you can force new windows to open in a tab instead, it's somewhere in the options.

But if the new window is not even opening in a new tab, then not sure what the problem is.

are you running IE7? if not that wouold be my first suggestion,upgrade to ie7 that can fix some stability issues with windows explorer
