Windows 10: Windows Explorer - High CPU Usage, EXTREMELY Slow Windows system commands but programs run fine

In early October 2022, my Window 10 machine misbehaved after a dreaded Windows update. The Task Bar was missing when I moved the cursor to the bottom of the screen but after around 30 second of leaving the cursor at the bottom of the screen, the Task Bar might eventually pop up or clicking right or left mouse button - hard to determine with the system too slow. Ditto using the Windows key combinations like WIN + I to launch the Settings menu then with a blue background - took forever and had to wait, Wait, WAIT without touching the keyboard or mouse clicks. Even pressing ESC + Ctrl was

Usually, too many background processes can boost your CPU usage. Since you already disabled the apps that are not necessary on startup,
we suggest checking the applications running once you have successfully boot Windows 10. To do this, simply follow the steps below:

• Click on the Start button and type Task Manager on the search box.
• On the Task Manager window, you should see the programs running.
• Click on the More details drop-down button to see the total number of apps running and their real-time CPU usage.

From there, you should see what applications are running on high CPU usage. You can also
restart the Windows Management Instrumentation service and see if your CPU performance will improve. Follow the instructions below to restart the service:

• Click on the Start button and type Services.
• Scroll down the list and look for Windows Management Instrumentation.
• Right click on it and select Restart.

Build 1909 Windows Explorer high CPU usage.

Hey all,

Not sure what is going on here. I get very high CPU usage (around 50% on a Ryzen 2700x) and it comes from windows explorer.





When I try to open windows explorer, it is extremely slow. This problem is intermittent. Sometimes I reboot and it doesn't show up.

I couldn't get into the file system to run process explorer, so I rebooted, issue went away, and now I have process explorer up and running. If it happens again, I'll be sure to get a screenshot.

I'm not sure if the issue is coming from my Samba shares from my server, or a local disk, or if it is a bug in Windows itself. Any idea?
