  1. Windows Explorer Needs to Be Reset for Notifications to Work. Why?

All my Windows notifications - whether notifying me when an external hard drive is plugged in or ejected, or Google Chrome chats like Hangouts and Checker Plus for Gmail - stop working after a while each day. I suspect it has something to do with Hangouts chats - either sending or receiving several of them seems to have something to do with the notifications stopping.

But if I go to Task Manager and "reset" Windows Explorer, all notifications start working again ... until they stop working again after a while.

Does anyone know why this happens? Or if there's a more permanent fix to this so I don't have to reset Windows Explorer more than a dozen times a day?

Yeah, thats not a solution she is interested in......I've suggested that course of action. Thanks though.

Just to clarify, I feel that there MUST be a step, or series of steps to turn off JUST the wireless notification sound. Thats what Im driving @ here.

windows 10: windows icon, search windows, and calendar not working

    Hi Sean,

A possible reason for this issue is a broken start menu and taskbar notification icons. It is sometimes due to updates. We suggest resetting the Taskbar.

To reset the task bar please follow these steps:

    • Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key to open Task Manager.
    • On the Processes tab, look for Windows Explorer.
    • Right-click Windows Explorer, then click Restart.
    • Wait for File Explorer to restart and see if Taskbar starts working again.

Let us know if this procedure works for you.
