  1. Windows explorer not retaining order/group configuration after restarting

I just started using windows 10, and every time I restart my computer, the order and group configuration of windows explorer is set back as how it was before I configured it. What can I do to make it retain the configuration I want? sort by name and disable groups

file explorer taking forever to load files in order in windows 10

    Bronis,

I had the same issue and found this solution on another website:

"After going through enabling startup services groups at the time and restarting the computer everytime! Eventually I found the service that was causing the problems with file explorer. The service is called Windows search and once disabled it restored functionality
to file explorer. The search function in file explorer works but the search in the taskbar doesn't."

    Step by step guide:

    1. Hold Win+r to open run

    2. Type msconfig and hit ok or enter

    3. Click Services

    4. Navigate to Windows search (you can sort the list in descending alphabetical order)

    5. Uncheck tickbox

    6. Click apply then ok

    7. Select to restart now

  3. - Retaining Sort Order in File Explorer:

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Let me assist you on your issue regarding Windows 10.

"it takes a LONG time for the software to rescan the folder and re-order", which software are you using to rescan and re-order the folder?

You may follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    1. Open the drop box folder in file explorer which needs to be sorted.

    2. Click on the view tab in the file ribbon.

    3. Now select the sort by option.

    4. Select the "date created" option and also select descending order.

    5. By select these two options the most recent(new) files will be displayed in the top separated by most recent(new) folders.

Note: The above steps are for drop box folder only, if you want to sort the other folder similarly please follow the above steps.

Hope the information helps. Do reply if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

  4. Windows explorer not retaining order/group configuration after restarting

    - Retaining Sort Order in File Explorer:

    - Is there any way to set a folders sort order in explorer so that when I open the folder it displays in Chronological order with latest date at the top/first? Currently, when in select my Dropbox folder on
my PC it displays with the OLDEST files at the top. When I click the Column header to re-sort so the most recent files are at the top, it takes a LONG time for the software to rescan the folder and re-order. How can I make it chronology order the default?
When I exit the program and open it again it does not seem to retain the historical settings.

Following setting is already selected. View/Options/Change folder Options/“Restore Previous Folder Options at login”
