Windows 10: Windows Explorer refreshing each time file explorer is open through a program.

Recently my windows updated and ever since then I've been getting this weird flickering like my screen is refreshing, and after testing it if I try to open something through a program that uses file explorer like photoshop or google chrome, will cause my entire screen(seems to be only things related to windows explorer process) to refresh, most noticeable on the desktop as every icon refreshes along with the taskbar and it's getting kind of unnerving, I've tried running Malwarebytes and my Anti Virus but nothing gets picked up so I have no idea what is causing it.

I did have another problem that came up after the update where sometimes things would not appear in searches in file explorer(not sure if it only pertained searching using file explorer from being opened through a program or any file explorer) I fixed it to a degree by rebuilding the search index. Not entirely sure if this would be important or not but felt like I should have brought it up.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows Explorer

I have Windows 7. Every time I try to open up my external HD the Windows Explorer quits working. I researched a little at this forum and "Wile E" had said

It's AVI files causing the problem. It happens when explorer tries to preview them. You can shut off previewing, and it goes away.

Open a run box, and type this:

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

It will prevent Explorer from trying to preview video files.

The post was 5 years old. Does anyone know what command I would give to to shut off previewing? Thankyou

 

Windows Explorer Replacement?

I don't use Internet Explorer, I meant the thing where you can look at files etc. Hotkey Windows+E. Maybe it's the wrong name in english though. *Stick Out Tongue
