Windows 10: Windows Explorer - View Tab -> Sort By Menu has no options

When I try to use the sort by tool at the top of the Explorer window, I have no options. Selecting "Choose columns..." shows that Name, Type, Size, Date Modified, and Date Created are checked.




If I perform a right-click somewhere among the files in the Explorer window, that sort by option does show the Name, Type, Size, Date Modified, and Date Created options.


I tried resetting group policies to no avail.

Feature suggestion: Add right-click menu

Suggestion: Please add a Windows 7 Jump-List and/or right-click menu to the GPU-Z icon in the Windows taskbar. Possible menus in it would be "Exit" and "About GPU-Z...".
Maybe also "Switch to tab 1/Switch to tab 2/Switch to videocard 1/Switch to videocard 2" too.
Examples of programs that have such menus are ICQ, Skype, AIM.

NOTE: It seems for a right-click menu, Windows 7 is not needed - it works on WinXP and Vista too.
But even a Windows 7 Jump-list may be good enough.

Windows Explorer View - change default

File explorer keeps forgetting sort- & "view" options

• While sorting which files you face this issue exactly?
• Is this issue specific for a specific folder on the computer?
• Have you setup the same folder layout settings for all the folders?
• Did you make any change to the system files prior to this issue?

Method 1:

SFC Scan:

System File Checker is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files.
Follow the steps:

• Type “cmd” without quotes on the
  Start screen.
• On the left pane, right click on the “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator”.
• Type ‘sfc /scannow’ without quotes and hit
  Enter.
• Check if it fixes any missing or corrupt system files.

If you are not able to repair some files after performing SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the point 3 “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log
%WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log”. Under the section “Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)”
to repair the corrupted files after performing SFC scan.

If the issue persist, follow the below method.

Method 2:

1) Open the File explorer (Windows+ E), select This PC from left navigation pane.

2) Click on View tab at the top of the File explorer.

3) Click on Options drop down menu at the top right corner, click on Change Folder and search options.

4) Select the view tab from the window, click on Reset folders and Restore defaults then click on Apply and Ok button.

Method 3:

I would suggest you to check if this issue remains in a different user account on the computer. If you have another user account, make the required changes to a folder and check the results.
