    Windows file explorer hangs


    Microsoft Windows [Version 20H2 10.0.19042.685]


    Windows file explorer toolbar becomes inactive when opening My Pictures folder. Thumbnails are not shown and status "Working on it..." never ends. Disk cleanup doesn't help nor restart. Interesting that no such issue when using "Browse" button from any application.

    Sorry I got nothing more to suggest then.

    File explorer hanging is an image issue. So if you can't do a repair upgrade or reset your PC then you can contact microsoft support directly to see if they have further steps but I am sure they are going to tell the same thing i did.

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
