  1. Windows File Explorer randomly stops functioning properly

I experienced an issue today which I sometimes used to experience on my old computer but I'm now using a completely new computer (new install) and just experienced it again. I don't know how replicate it or why it seems to happen so I guess it's just happening at random?

The entire windows file explorer stops working properly, new icons do not load and clicking on folders will do nothing but load forever, If I close the file explorer and open it again it seems to get even worse by now just not showing some folders or just straight up not loading at all. The only way I know of to fix it was to either reboot or log out and log in again, then everything works as normal again.

I first noticed it when I tried to clicking on an mp3 file from the file explorer and groove music opened but only showed a blank UI with no track playing and was just frozen. I am using a legit version of windows 10 with all updates installed.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

File Explorer suddenly stopped functioning. Windows update did NOT repair.

About a week ago, File Explorer in Windows 10 stopped functioning. Also, the file save function from Chrome stopped functioning. So, for example, the following scenarios result in disaster:

    • Opening a file from File Explorer (my preferred method of working): I open file manager, navigate to the desired folder, and double-click on the file (typically a Word document). As soon as I double-click on the file, File Explorer freezes,
the entire monitor goes blank, then windows returns, with my applications open, except for File Explorer. It has apparently self-destructed.
    • Saving a file from Chrome, Method 1: I navigate in Chrome to the desired file. I right-click on the file to obtain a drop-down menu to find the save link option. I navigate to the folder where I would like to save the file, and as soon
as I select my destination, a Chrome error appears, stating that the application has stopped functioning and Chrome must close.
    • Saving a file from Chrome, Method 2: Same as Method 1, only I select "print," and attempt to print the file to a .pdf. I navigate to the desired folder, and the same Chrome error appears, stating that the application has stopped functioning,
      and Chrome must close.

I have followed the instructions here: Windows 10 file explorer problems., without positive result.

Contacting Windows support via chat. We upgraded the Windows 10, but the issue persists.
