Windows 10: Windows Firewall question - outbound

Let's say the Windows FW on a server is enabled, and set to deny inbound and oubound traffic on all domains by default. A client try to get to the server for SMB file share. So I create a rule on in inbound from ClientIP to ServerIP on destination port of 445 to be allowed. Now the client is able to access the SMB share on the server. My question is the outbound FW is set to deny by default. When this client sends in a packet let's say from sourceport of 123456 to 445, the returning packet has to go out the server from source port of 445 to the destination port of 123456 on client, since the o

Outbound rules are used to control the network traffic that originates from your device and goes to another device on the network or the internet. By default, Windows Firewall allows all outbound network traffic, unless it matches a rule that prohibits the traffic.



If you want to block or allow a specific program or port to communicate outbound, you need to create a custom outbound rule. You can do this by following these steps: Configure firewall rules with group policy - Windows Security | Microsoft Learn

question about firewall outbound rules

hi there
I intend to create an outbound rule in Windows Firewall to block connections certain software might attempt to make.
My question is if I can add an IP exception, like blocking all outbound connections with the exception of certain IP address where the software may connect, which is actually my website's ftp server.
I've surfed in rules settings and I cannot find it. *Huh

 

Add Store apps to Windows Firewall outbound rule

Hello,

I have changed Windows Firewall to block outbound connections.

I had no problem configuring outbound rules to allow classic applications accessing the internet.

I have tried adding the following two rules, but it does not work:

• %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsStore_22210.1401.13.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\WinStore.App.exe
  
• C:\Windows\System32\RuntimeBroker.exe
  

I receive the next error when trying to use Windows Store:

You'll need the Internet for this.

It doesn't look like you're connected to the Internet. Check your connection and try again.
