  1. Windows Firewall

    Hello everyone
I have no permission to turn Firewall off or on because of Mcafee. Mcafee does not allow me to turn it off or on. I tried to do it but there is no option in Mcafee to turn it off or on. I would like to keep Mcafee and prevent Mcafee from control it.

Is there any way to do it?

    :)

    Windows Firewall as Network Firewall

Although initially criticised as being weak the Windows Firewall has improved with each build and is perfectly suited to protect ITS HOST.

However to use it as a network firewall service would not be its intended use and lacks many features common to dedicated firewall appliances. It lacks Stateful packet inspection common to even the most basic domestic router and its exception management
is built around the applications installed on the host, something not possible if the applications are on remote devices on the corporate network.

As I have said the firewall incorporated in domestic ADSL/VDSL/DSL routers is more appropriate so it really depends on what your inbound connection service is. Alternatively there are a number of free firewall distros built on the Linux platform and do not
need particularly powerful hardware to run on (in fact add nothing to the performance at all).

Otherwise spend the money you would have on the "high performance" system on a dedicated device such as from SonicWALL et a. Surprisingly the cheapest dedicated firewall on Newegg is from Cisco is only $62 although this is not a recommendation. As you say
a Firewall is very important, worth spending at least some money on it.

    Windows Firewall as Network Firewall

    Hi,

Firewall is a very important Network Security equipment. The Windows Firewall is a host based firewall. However,

our plan is to use a high performance system with windows firewall as an External Firewall. The External firewall

filters all the inbound and outbound traffic when connecting to the Internet. Can anybody advice if they have

tried using windows firewall? What modifications have been effected to the system and what confugurations were used.

    Please share the experience.

    Warm regards

    CRSK

    Windows Firewall

Windows firewall control is now managed from the Defender interface (Creator's build).

You would only want to turn it off for test purposes, assuming your Mcafee is AV only.
If your McAfee is an internet security package (AV + firewall) I would expect it's turned the Windows firewall off.

If you would care to specify your Mcafee product someone might comment further who has experience of it.

I would expect that if you install a 3rd party firewall it will disable Windows' own.
