Windows 10: Windows Hello Bio-metric Login Failure Detection

Greetings,


We are trying to set up Windows Hello in our environment using biometrics (Fingerprint or Facial Recognition).


We managed to get it to work, but we are facing a show stopper, the failed logins must be recorded/logged, usually this is done with the logon auditing settings.

Using Windows Hello will only log PIN login failures, while it will not log any biometric failure anywhere.


DId anybody face such problem or did anybody managed to capture a failed bio-metric login on Windows Hello?


If this is a limitation from Windows Hello, is there any thrid party bio-metric solutions that can provide such feature?

Bio Metric in Windows 10

Like instead of sitting in front of the computer waiting for it to find you.can you just type in a password to login into instead of going through the bio metrics process?

 

windows Hello states it isn't available on this device

Hi Tom,

Try few of the troubleshooting steps below and check if you are able to access Windows Hello.

Step 1: I suggest you to run
Hardware and Devices troubleshooter as it checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

• Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
  Troubleshooting and select it.
• Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
  Troubleshooting window.
• Select the Hardware and Device
  options from the list.
• Click Next to run the
  Hardware and Device Troubleshooter.

Step 2: Also, I suggest you to update the bio-metric finger print reader from Device Manager and check if it helps.

• Press Windows + X from the keyboard, click on Device Manager.
• Right click on Bio-metric finger print reader, click on
  Properties.
• Go to Drivers tab, click on Update driver software.

Step 3: I recommend you to install all the pending updates on your device and check if it helps.

Steps:

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.

Windows Hello Did Not Install After Restoring Computer (Windows 10)

Hi all,

After a Windows 10 update my finger print login stopped being available even though Windows Hello was still installed and active.

What I found is Windows 10 Updates had updated my bio-metric finger print driver and this was what caused it to not work.

I went into device manager, clicked on the bio-metric finger print reader and opted to update the driver, however I chose to update from my computer, then I listed available drivers and noticed that Windows had changed the driver so I went back to the original
driver which in my case was Synaptic Bio-Metric Reader, once updated the option for Finger Print Login came back.

So in essence try to roll back the driver or choose one Manually should sort it out.
