Windows 10: Windows Hello Face can't find a compatible camera

I recently purchased an HP Envy laptop from Best Buy. I had their Geek Squad complete the setup. Got it home and was not able to set up Windows Hello Face. Spent 3 hours with their on-line GS support with no resolution. I returned the computer and got a new one. Again, Geek Squad completed the setup. Got it home last night and guess what? Of course... SAME ISSUE. I've tried all of the online suggestions I could find and nothing seems to work. Hello Fingerprint and all other sign-in options appear to work just fine. Another 2 hours with online support last night and still no resolution. I'm assuming this is either an issue with how GS is setting up the computer or a Windows 10 problem? I can't imagine it's 2 bad computers in a row.


I did confirm that I'm running all of the latest software no updates available... Windows 10, version 20H2.

Does your PC manufacturer claim that the camera should work with Windows Hello?

Yes, but not one with the capabilities required. You need one that can see infrared....
