Windows Hello, use external camera instead of Laptop

Ok, this has been working, although a bit of a hit-n-miss sometimes for the screens we have in the office, Philips Brilliance 499P, which have Windows Hello compatible cameras. Most often if I boot my laptop at work and start it with the lid closed the external camera on the 499P will log me in.However, if I at some point during the day open the lid on the laptop Dell XPS 17, also with Windows Hello camera, it stops working on the external screen and only the laptop camera will log me in which is annoying as I have the laptop on a shelf underneath the table.I recently got a Logitech BRIO 4

    :)

  2. Windows hello on external camera

Hi, i have a Surface Laptop 3 that i have connected to an external monitor using USB-C (on both ends). The monitor is a Philips Brilliance 499P and it has a built in camera that is Windows Hello Compatible.

The problem is that i am not able to set the built in camera as default for Windows Hello when i am connected to the monitor. The camera is accessible when i use Teams, Camera app etc. but i have to use the laptop camera when i need to log in via Windows
    Hello which is quite annoying.

I have found a couple of guides telling me to go to Devices and Printers, locate the camera there and set it as default. I find the camera there, but there is no option to set it as default. Another tips i have found is disabling the Surface Laptop camera,
but this means i would have to reenable it when i disconnect the laptop from the external monitor so that is no good either.

So, does anyone else have the same issue, and even better, anyone have a solution for this? I have run all windows updated, and i have also installed the latest drivers for the monitor.

Thanks in advance Windows Hello, use external camera instead of Laptop :)

Are there external cameras available for Windows Hello?

I'm a new user to Windows 10 and getting some of the features and settings sorted. I'm seeing information that Windows Hello will not work with a standard web cam and requires an IR cam. There were postings from several months back, essentially saying
that these cameras are only available in laptops and pads. But that was months ago. My question is: Are there currently external cameras being made that I can connect to my existing computer to make Windows Hello operational? Buying a camera
is less of an issue than buying a whole new computer. Nevermind that I built my last two computers instead of buying one. Feel free to continue to update the answers in the future if something is not currently available, but is available later.

    Laptop Camera

Thanks for updating us on the results of the troubleshooting steps that you have completed. Since the built-in webcam is still not working correctly and the same error code 0xA00F4244 (0xC00DABED) is still appearing, we suggest that we check the camera privacy
settings to see if the camera access is turned on. Kindly follow the steps below to check the camera privacy settings:

    • Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
    • Near the top of the Settings app window is the search box, kindly type the word "webcam" or "camera".
    • From the list of results choose Camera privacy settings.
    • Make sure that "Let apps use my camera" toggle is set to On.

We look forward to your response once you complete the steps.
