  1. Windows Hosting Strange Network While On

My relationship with Windows 10's hotspot has been touch and go. It has had its usefulness, but it has also been quite the thorn in my side. I recently fixed my hotspot (again) to see if I could use it for a project of mine (was a bust, can't use WEP) but now I remember why I left it broken last time. My computer is currently hosting this strange network even though I have the mobile hotspot and nearby sharing off. It is called DIRECT-QM[Insert my computer's name here]msTJ. I also do not know the password for this network as I have tried my Microsoft password, pin number, and the password I have set for my mobile hotspot. It is not visible from my computer, but I noticed it on my phone. Not only do I see this as the potential to drain my battery, but also a security risk in public since I have no idea what it is nor what the password is. Has anyone encountered this or know of a way to fix it? I don't want to have to break and fix the hotspot every time I want to use it (I think deleting the virtual adapter breaks it, and deleting the drivers and letting Windows figure it out fixes it).

TL;DR: Windows is hosting DIRECT-QM[Insert my computer's name here]msTJ and I don't know how to turn it off.

Edit: Version 1909, OS build 18363.1256, Intel Core i5-7300HQ 2.5GHz, 8 GB RAM

Task manager says Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2 is hosting it, which device manager claims I have 3 of, and the adapter name is Local Area Connection* 10

  3. Wlan network driver shows "hosted network support: no", how to fix this on Windows 10?

    Hello Pavith,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We regret the inconvenience caused and will assist you in resolving the issue.

You may be facing the above issue due to the wireless network adapter driver not installed on the PC. Installing the network adapter driver onto the device will help in connecting the PC to Wi-Fi and other wireless communications.

Method 1: I suggest you to download and install latest and compatible wireless network adapter for Windows 10 operating system from the manufacturer’s website and check if the issue is resolved.

Method 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

Step 1: Start the hosted network on PC by following the steps below:

    • Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
Command Prompt (Admin) from the context menu.

    • Type netsh wlan command in the window and press
      Enter.

    • Type netsh wlan start hostednetwork and press
      Enter.

    • Check for the status in the window and check if the changes are effective.

Step 2: Also check if wlansvc services is
running and set to automatic in the Services window by following the steps below:

    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
Services and select the top most search result.

    • Locate WLAN auto config from the window and check
Status shows Running and Startup type is set to
      Automatic.

    • If not, double click on the service and change the
Status and Startup type to Running and
      Automatic.

Windows Hosting Strange Network While On

    What is this network device?

This is a weird problem I've been seeing in windows for years now (not just windows 10). I've been unable to figure out what it is, but we're not alone in this, I did some research a while back and a lot of other people were seeing it as well.

Some suggest it's a bug in the network stack. Some suggest it's neighbors who are connecting somehow, but not able to use the network. Regardless, it's not an uncommon problem and doesn't seem to be anything worry about. Here's some examples:
