Windows 10: Windows Insider Build 18990

I have Build 18990-190921-1704. For some reason yesterday morning everything loads properly, my desktop shows up for a few seconds and then goes black, with only the cursor arrow. The drive light keeps working so I know something is going on with the system (it's not dead)


When I use ctl-alt-del and "switch user", I see that I'm logged on and can type in my PIN, but then it goes black with the cursor arrow again.


Is there a way to get to my desktop so I can upgrade to the next Build and hopefully resolve issues?


Thankfully I had a backup drive from October 2018 that is functioning, but am afraid to update that one now.

use the key you need for the build and run those lines in cmd to activate

I suggest running those commands as administrator. Just in case.

where did the insiders hub go in build 10158 it seems to be missing.

Insider Hub: As I mentioned here, the Insider Hub is no longer pre-installed starting with this build. You can reinstall the Insider Hub app through the following steps:

• Go to Settings, System, Apps & features.
• Click Manage optional features then Add a feature.
• Select the Insider Hub entry (the list is in alphabetical order) and click Install.

This issue might be caused by system conflict. We suggest trying to stop the Windows Insider Builds by following the steps below:

• Click the Start button.
• Choose Settings then select Update & security.
• Click on Windows Insider Program then choose Stop Insider builds.
