Windows 10: Windows install on ssd only recognized when specific hdd is pluged in

This requires a bit of background, so I apologize in advance. I previously launched windows from a hdd, then upgraded to an ssd but I kept the hdd plugged in so I could access the stuff on it still and it worked as I expected it to. A little bit ago I reinstalled windows on my ssd and since then whenever I turn on computer I now am brought to a screen where I can select whether to launch from the hdd or ssd windows, this was confusing but everything still worked once I got into the ssd install so I didn't think about it much. Does Windows 10 automatically recognise that a SSD has replaced a HDD?

I have recently replaced the HDD in my Windows 10 laptop with a SSD. As I understand it, Windows periodically runs a defragmentation in the background on a HDD. However, SSD drives do not require defragmenting and running such a tool can shorten the life
of a SSD.

The SSD was a clone of the HDD and not a new installation. Will Windows 10 recognize that the laptop now has a SSD and stop its background defragmentation or do I need to take specific steps to prevent this activity occurring on the SSD? If I need to take
action please advise on the steps I should take.

Automatic repair while booting from hdd and installing windows on ssd.

1. Migrated windows from hdd to ssd
   
2. Formatted hdd
   
3. Prioritised boot from ssd in bios
   
4. Turned on the pc
   
5. Automatic repair
   

To deal with this I select boot from a device > then EFI USB device > it says no bootable USB detected, select from these drives > there are few options including the newly installed ssd > I select ssd > then it shows disk checking, press any key to stop > I stop it > windows then boots from ssd.

It very difficult to repeat all this everytime I turn on my pc. Please suggest a fix.

 

Clean install of windows 11 on SSD (current OS on HDD)

I am planing to install a SSD in my laptop, which already has HDD. laptop support SSD and HDD together. The currest OS on the HDD and i want to do a fresh install on the SSD, Please can anyone write a step by step guide on what to do, i am not confident on this.
