Windows 10: Windows installation error "... boot into the next phase of the installation"

Hi,

I'm getting this error on a hp laptop, trying to do a clean install of Windows 10. It had Windows 10 on it previously but was having some other issues and I was also unable to perform a reset.

The full error is: "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation."


I have tried the following:

-Changed from Legacy to UEFI boot currently on native but also tried hybrid with CSM

-Turned off/on USB legacy support

-Re-made the boot media using the Microsoft tool on a USB

-No external devices are plugged in

-Removed all partitions and installed on unallocated space

-Changing from AHCI to IDE and back again


I am out of ideas. It's an employee's laptop and I need to get it fixed but I don't know what else to try, I must have made 20 attempts today with different settings on/off and other ideas from websites.


Prior to the last attempt to reset before I tried reinstalling I ran sfc /scannow and there weren't any problems. I don't think it's a hardware problem but it's not a new machine either.

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

Error when installing Win7

when Installing Windows 7 I get an error saying ""A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step." What should I do to get Windows to install?

 

Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:

• Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
• When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
• Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
• When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
• This time enter your product key
• When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
• Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it

Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.
