Hello All,

I'm trying to download and install an update for my NVivo Qualitative Data Analysis software program. Every single time I've tried to update it, the Nvivo Update Installer opens, appears to download the update, and then Window's Installer opens and then I receive the error message "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package", which shuts the whole update process down. I've tried many of the common suggestions posted online and nothing has worked so far.

Here's the attempted fixes that I've tried already and that haven't worked:

1. I've run a system file check (SFC) scan in cmd as an admin. Outcome: "Windows Protection did not find any integrity violations"
   
2. Verified that the Windows installer service is running and is set as "Automatic" for the startup type.
   
3. Verified the Registry settings (entering REGEDIT, ensuring the values for NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation and Win31FileSystem are "0".
   
4. In the properties section of the Nvivo Update file, "Unblock" is not an option present.
   
5. My Windows account is an administrator account, and I've tried to run the Nvivo Update file as an administrator. I still receive the same error.
   
6. Re-registered Windows installer, using cmd to unregister and reregister (msiexec / unregister, then msiexec / regserver)
   
7. Turned off Windows Firewall for private and public networks, attempted to update, and still received the same error. Obviously I restored the firewalls after the failed update.
   

I enabled logging of MSinstaller, so I now have a log of the update attempt, failure, and error. I'm not a developer or anything, so it's difficult for me to decipher what exactly the log is telling me. The error code is 1636. I can post the full log if need be, but the following line in the log caught my eye:

DEBUG: Error 2211: Database: . Could not create database table MsiDigitalCertificate

1: 2211 2: 3: MsiDigitalCertificate

FYI I have Windows 10 Pro. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I feel like I'm at the end of my rope here. >_<
