Windows 10: Windows Installer from USB is unresponsive

Hi to all,


I’m trying to reinstall Windows from scratch using an bootable USB drive that has the Windows installer on it.
The issue I am facing so far is quite strange: I manage to boot into the USB drive but that’s it.
Once the installer loads up, I have no controls available to continue. Trackpad and built-in keyboard are unresponsive.

I am using a Surface Laptop product and these devices only come with one USB port on the side, to which the USB drive is already connected.
I am clueless here because there should not be any drivers needed for a built-in keyboard or at least would Windows find generic drivers.

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

 

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

Unresponsive back USB ports

You've done practically everything you can. From what it looks you listed you even tried completely different operating system installs to no avail. How about the Windows Installation's reaction to USB kb/mouse? What about booting an Ubuntu Live CD? I'd like to rule out busted USB ports.
