    Windows Installer Service Auto Starts even though its set to "Manual"


    Hello,So I was looking at my task manager as I always do when I start my PC and today I saw something unusual. Now, it may have always been there and that I didn't notice it earlier but Windows Installer Service is running in the background not as a system process but as a normal background app would. The first thing I did is check whether its set to automatic or not and by default it's set to manual. Something that I noticed afterwards is that it is inside a parent group called "Windows® Installer" which only includes its service in it. The service keeps on being active until I actually insta

    windows xp installation and dual core am

    could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

    Windows Installer Services stuck on manual and can not be started

    For the last 2 months I have not be able to install some software. I checked my Services listing and my Windows Installer is set to manual and If I click start I get an Error message reading:

    Windows could not start the Windows Installer Services on Local Computer.

    Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

    Windows 2000 SP 4 here. After some tweakings and problems (including removal od some spyware and stuff) my Installer service can't be started. Hence, for example, installing anything is not possible. And, for example, FF can't use the M$ java, so...

    Anyone know, what to do, beside reinstall, to make it working again?

    The C:\WINNT\system32\msiexec.exe /V file is here. The service is not disabled, it is on manual. However when in services I choose to start it, then in fail to and report that "service did not return any error", so it might be a Windows itself fault *Bang Head :banghead:

    Damn. Anyone having some ideas, what to test?
