Ok, seriously, why does "security" have to be SO complicated, at least on home users? It is so bad that I'm pretty sure it is doing that exact opposite of what it should be - I can't modify/save/access files in certain locations but I have no real way of knowing if other people can or not, as I have no idea what some of the options even mean.
As an example, I can't save changes to some files directly to my Dropbox folder, a box comes up saying I do not have permission to save to this location. So I decide to try to change owner/permissions. Turns out I *AM* the owner of the Dropbox folder, so I try to change permissions. Now, which account do I change - My user name account, Administrator account, Home User account? And as far as permissions go, whats the difference? My user name account has every permission except "Special." Whats the Special permission? How do I enable it? This is all RIDICULOUSLY complicated, and seems to me to defeat the whole purpose of security, if the main user can't even configure it correctly. Its insane.
Any help would be appreciated--if in ENGLISH, not Microtalk

    :)

Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot not Working/Turning On and Stucked at "Applying Settings"

My Norton Security that came with the laptop disables Windows Defender so I can't access the Security Center. Is there another fix or will Windows Updates be fixing their stuff up some time soon? Clearly there is a significant impact on Microsoft users
unable to access the internet with their mobile hotspot connections now Microsoft have Updated their software...

I lost permission to my own harddisk - being an admin even.

    Hi,

I just finished installing Windows 10 and I wanted to disable access to my E disk for the guest account, since it contains all my personal and business stuff - and porn, off course - and I don't want these things to float around on the screen during nacspiels
while people are spotifying. So i rightclicked E in explorer and clicked properties/security, and I established Guest user, and removed all permissions on E for Guest.

HOWEVER... instead of controlling access, I've lost access to E drive - even as admin. That was not the plan. And I can't reverse the access again - obviously.

    HELP!

  4. Windows is so secure, I CAN'T EVEN ACCESS MY STUFF.

    See if this helps
    Open Dropbox preferences
    Open the Account tab
Press Tab until the [Unlink This Computer] button is selected

Press & hold the Alt key
-> The [Unlink This Computer] button changes to [Fix Permissions]
    Press [Fix Permissions]
Dropbox processes your files - it might take a while.

  5. Didn't work, the button never changed. I've seen an article about the same thing, but was for Mac (OSX) I think. Don't think it works in Windows.

  6. Ok, perhaps I jumed the gun.

Is the issue only with Dropbox or are there other folders that report permission errors?

If it's only your Dropbox folder(s) try the Dropbox troubleshooter:
Dropbox - Submit a help request

If it's other folders, p[lease post the advanced screen on the folder's security property page.

  7. I should have posted sooner, i apologize. It seems it was just a certain file within Dropbox. I went into properties and took ownership and assigned permissions and it worked after that. Thank you for the replies.

  8. Windows is so secure, I CAN'T EVEN ACCESS MY STUFF.

Spoke too soon- this still happens with any new file I want to save directly to Dropbox. I can save somewhere else, drag it into Dropbox, and then go in and change ownership/permissions and it works, but I can't save a new file directly into Dropbox from the program used to create it. The funny thing is, the root Dropbox folder is "owned" by the user account I'm using (mine), and the permissions are "Full Control." Makes no sense to me.

  9. Ok, seems one of the folders WITHIN Dropbox (the one I was trying to save to) was owned by Administrator. I don't know how or why that happened. Aaaaagggh! Frustrating. Thank you for listening to my rant. LOL.
