Windows 10: Windows is stuck on a “choose an operating system screen”

I have just done a system reset on my laptop and now I am met with a screen that says “choose an operating system”. The two options on the screen are both “Windows 10 on volume 3”. When I select one of these options my computer just loops and re opens the screen. I have tried to do a system repair but I have no users with administrator permissions due to the system reset. I am trying to find any other solutions before I purchase a usb to do a clean install of windows. Any help would me much appreciated.

Hi,

I reset my pc to give it to my younger sister. It is stuck at reinstalling windows. It is stuck at choose operating system where it shows 2 options under choose operating system.

Windows 10 in volume 3

Both the options bring the laptop back to the same screen. How to fix this?

I think I see where the problem lies. The OS listed on the Boot tab is just "Windows 10"



But the top OS on the Selection Screen at Bootup is listed as "Windows 10 from volume 3"




I'm not sure, but I believe that whichever option I chose at the previous bootup, moves to the top position on a subsequent boot up. So I'll try switching to the bottom option and see what happens.

Sometimes, this could be due to two operating system installed in your computer. Just to make sure this is not the case, I suggest you to try the steps below:

1. Press Windows key + R.

2. Type msconfig and press enter.

3. Click the "boot" tab and check if there are any other operating system listed.

4. In addition, change the timeout time to 3 seconds(default)
