Windows 10: Windows is using my earplugs' speakers (not mic) as mic in?

First, to start by saying, I didn't even think this is possible.

Today, I plugged a standard smartphone earplugs (with mic) in my mic in plug. What happened is, they got recognized as a microphone, but instead of using the actual microphone device on the headset, windows decided to listen on the actual headphones. As in, the drivers that you put in your ear and make the sound. And it actually picks up my voice.

I don't know how a driver which produces sound can pick up sounds and be used as a mic, but it works somehow, albeit poorly.

How can I tell windows to listen on the mic instead?

EDIT: Apparently my motherboard is shit. 3.5mm splitter works.

Combined mic/speakers


I have a combined mic and speakers jack and also a combined input, but my microphone isn't working. it's just using my pc mic.

 

USB Mic Problems.

The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.

Kind of bad title, didn't know how to word it.

Basically I have one of those Iphone earphones which use a single lead and have a built in mic and I wanted to use it on a PC. I was wondering if I could get an adapter which I plugged the earphones into which had a Mic Out and a Speaker Out to plug into my PC so that I can use both the mic and speaker components of the earphones at the same time.

Or is there any other method of doing this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
