Windows 10: Windows just freezes for 10+ minutes upon nearly any interaction

Hello, thought I would get some second opinions on what might be going on here. So yes as the title suggests, at this point, any time I interact with systems directly related to windows 10, it locks up either indefinitely or for a long time. This includes things like opening an explorer window, right clicking on the desktop, clicking anything in the start menu/task bar, etc. Boot time has also gone from 20-30 seconds to a few minutes sometimes more. However, if I can manage to get another program open, it seems to run fine I've only been able to test a few at this point though.


I have an SSD with windows on it, and 1 other hard drive. My assumption here is that my SSD is dying in some way, but wanted to see if anyone else had ideas before I buy a new one. I've tried running anti-virus software, but they lock up once the scan starts, I assume because they are interacting with windows.


I guess I can't give all the info because I'm having trouble accessing it, but here is some info:


GPU: GTX 970

CPU: Intel i5

RAM: 32g

Storage: 500g SSD, 2tb? hard drive


-Ram and CPU are about a year old, everything else is closer to 6

-I was able to confirm the other day that all my drivers are up to date
-I did mange to do a safe boot, and it made no difference


I am going to continue trying things, and I'll update here if I find anything. I am very thankful for anyone who reads this / has some suggestions. Thanks!

Borderlands freezes and thaws

I'm positive the steps I took above fixed it. I went through 10 rounds in the underdome (well over an hour of gameplay) without a single freeze. Previously, I couldn't play 15 minutes without at least one freeze.

 

Windows 7 freezes for 1 minute

My custom built rig has lately, in the past 2 months or so, been having these spits of freezing. It will freeze for exactly 1 minute: always 1 minute, every time. I can time it down to the second.

The weird thing is that when it freezes, some programs seem to be immune to it. When playing a full screen game, video and audio will freeze (though not always at the same time, sometimes one or the other will lag). Playing a 3D game in windowed mode seems to be immune to it however. Windows explorer and Firefox always seems to freeze, but Windows Messenger (including video call) will work as normal even while everything else is frozen. After a minute has passed, everything is back to normal. It happens at irregular intervals: sometimes it will happen then happen again 30 seconds later, and sometimes I can go hours without the problem.

It's a bit bizarre and I'm not sure what is causing it. The fact that it is always exactly 1 minute makes me think it's some dumb program checking for an update or something, but I can't pin it down.

Any ideas appreciated.
