Windows 10: Windows (KB4340917) Update Won't Install

I have been unable to install this update through either Windows Update or by downloading the windows10.0-kb4340917-x64_ed5f586fa9d7064d61e45c523f20ba7fc1ff142a Microsoft Update Standalone Package (.msu) file with the Media Creator and using the Offline Updater. Windows Update repeatedly generates the following error:

The Offline Updater has been stuck at 15-20% progress on the progress bar for 5 hours during this step:

I have successfully run Windows Update Repair multiple times, and it finds "restarts pending" and other problems that it fixes, but both Windows Update and the offline updater continue to fail or get stuck as described.


What other options are left?

Windows updates won't install!

I had the same problem when i repaired my O/S, i forgot the steps on how to fixed it, but it is in the microsoft support forum.

You have to reinstall the windows updater, then restart the updating service.

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

I'll check that out.

I had read that. However the problem MS is addressing there is when the update client files of the pc don't recognise that the pc is not updated and hence don't download the updates. My updates download fine. In fact I'm even getting downloaded updates which I do not need (win2000, vista, server...) The problem is getting the correct updates installed...

For example, I'm getting KB933729 in my list. That's for Vista!

 

My case was a total nightmare. The updates crashed in the middle of updates, forcing me to turn off the laptop using power button, but the system didn't come up again. I could somehow manage to recover the entire system before the updates. This updates is not good.

 

I finally got it to work after several tries by running "sfc /scannow". This picked up and repaired some files and then the update installed. The windows update troubleshooter was worthless and running all the "dism.exe" permutations did not help either.
