    I work in an office with several shared printers that are all used for different functions within a very busy workplace.All of our desktops have a defined default printer based on our workflow tasks. None of us have the "let windows manage my default printer" radio button checked.When any of us uses a printer that is not our default printer, every task afterwards goes directly to that printer instead of reverting to the default printer.This behavior is managing in fact still managing my printers. I want to choose when to use a different printer than my default and have everything just "default

    Hi,

    I suggest you to run in-built Printer troubleshooter and check. Refer to the following steps:


    • Press Windows Key + X..

    • Click on Control Panel.

    • Select Troubleshooting.

    • On the left pane, click on View All.

    • Click on Printer to run the troubleshooter.

    Hello,

    • What is the make and model of your Printer?
    • What exactly happens when you try to print? Do you get any error message?
    This issue might have occurred due to incompatible printer drivers. I suggest you to try the methods below and check if this helps.

    Method 1:

    Initially, I suggest you to run the printer troubleshooter and check if this helps.

    The built-in Printer Troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix most of the incorrect settings and errors that could cause issues while printing. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if there is any issue
    with the sound. Refer top these steps:

    • Press Windows and x key together and select Control Panel.
    • Click on Troubleshooting and select the
      view all
      option on the left pane.
    • Click on Printer troubleshooter and follow the prompts.
    Method 2:

    I suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if it helps.
    To do so kindly follow the below given steps:

    • Right click on printer’s driver that you have downloaded from manufacturer website.
    • Click/tap on Properties.
    • Check the Run this program in Compatibility mode for under
      Compatibility tab.
    • Select Windows 8.1/8 from the drop down under
      Compatibility mode section.
    • Click on Apply and Ok.
    • Install the drivers, restart PC and check if issue is resolved.

    Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

    Method 1: I suggest you to run Printer troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows + X, click on Control Panel, select
      Category and then select Large or Small icons.
    • Click on Troubleshooting and click on
      View all in the left pane.
    • Select Printer and follow on-screen instructions.

    Method 2: I suggest you to check the status of
    Print Spooler service and check.

    Print Spooler service, spools print service and handles interactions with the printer.
    If you turn off this service you won’t be able to print or see your printer.

    Steps 1:

    • Press Windows + R to open Run command, type
      Services.msc and press Enter.
    • Search for Printer Spooler service, right click on it and
      Start the service.
    • Also, set the Startup type to Automatic.

    Step 2: To Manually Clear and Reset Print Spooler Queue

    • Press Windows + R to open Run command, type
      Services.msc and press Enter.
    • Search for Printer Spooler service, right click on it and
      Stop the service.
    • Close the window.

    Step 3: Delete the printer files

    • Press Windows + E keys, click on This PC in the left pane.
    • Double click on C: drive (The drive where operating system is installed).
    • Navigate to the folder below, and open the PRINTERS
    C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS

    4. Delete all files in the PRINTERS folder until it is empty, then close Windows
    Explorer.

    Step 4: Start the Print Spooler service
    and check.

    • Press Windows + R to open Run command, type
      Services.msc and press Enter.
    • Search for Printer Spooler service, right click on it and
      Start the service.
    • Also, set the Startup type to Automatic.

    Also, try the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the Microsoft article and check if it helps.
