Windows 10: Windows keeps rearranging desktop icons after resolution changes.

Hey guys,


I frequently play games, I don't have the best gaming rig but it's good enough for 3D modelling, gaming and general educational uses. When playing CSGO, I drop the resolution down to get a higher frame rate. I've always done that, when I press the windows key to go back to the desktop, I would get my native resolution (2560x1440 or 2k).


Before, I'd switch to a very low resolution just to mess around and I'll have to rearrange my desktop icons. That'd happen once in over 5-6 months.

Now (after the recent windows update) I'm finding myself rearranging the icons over 2 times a day. That's not good for productivity, or just 1 looks in general.


This isn't the only issue. I'm finding massive CPU spikes along with disk usages. This is another issue I'm looking into, possibly with drivers and a BIOS update further on.


I do appreciate the support, I'm not interested in any third party modification to solve this. It should not be a problem to start off with.

Desktop Icons Keep Rearranging after screen resolution change

This seems to be a problem many people have.

I run windows 10, and everytime i plug HDMI cable into TV, changing the screen resolution, it resets my desktop configuration.

My desktop is not on auto align. Desktop theme is not allowed to make changes to icon layout

This is a problem multiple users seem to have.

Desktop icons keep rearranging - Windows 10 Help Forums with no solution other than registry edits.

There must be a better way to deal with this.

Can somebody please help ?

Let's sort out this odd behavior. You might be experiencing this issue because
the Auto arrange icons option is enabled, or you are changing the screen resolution causing the icons to be rearranged. Let's disable
Auto arrange icons and Align icons to grid, and check if you will continue to experience this problem.Here's how:

• Right-click on an empty space on your desktop.
• Select View.
• Select Auto arrange icons to uncheck it.
• Select Align icons to grid to uncheck it.

Desktop icons keep rearranging


Hello,

My desktop icons keep rearranging and windows explorer won't save the position I put them in.

I can rearrange them but when I click 'Refresh' or if I restart explorer or if I reboot they rearrange to another setup. This happens in both normal mode and safe mode.

I have tried all the solutions available on the internet with no luck, including the obvious ones (trying all the auto-arrange and grid options) and even some more complex ones (sfc, registry tweaks).

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
