Windows 10: Windows Keeps Turning On Speech Recognition

Two times in the past few days Windows 10 has restarted overnight, and then either turned on Voice Recognition, or used Voice Recognition even when it was still turned off in the Settings.


TLDR: It first happened a couple of days ago after restart. I then disabled Voice Rec. It happened again today, even though Voice Recognition was still turned off in Settings --- but it was running anyway.


Details:


The first time this happened, before I opened my laptop, I heard a "beep" every time I talked or made a sound. I have a bunch of electronics, and I went insane trying to find the source of the beep, because I couldn't pinpoint the sound. I figured it was a voice assistant speaker or bluetooth device somewhere in the room.


When I finally opened my laptop, I saw browsers opened, nonsensical text written in every application that was open, and that beep continuing.


I researched it, and checked the event log and saw a restart had occurred, and that Windows had made a unilateral decision to turn on Voice Rec, so I TURNED OFF the Voice Rec program in Settings.



Today, I awoke to the same issue. The beep, the open browsers, the random snippets of incorrectly transcribed conversations.


But --- my Voice Recognition was still turned to OFF in Settings.


**** is this BS?



Since I couldn't turn Voice Rec OFF in the settings (as it was already off), I completely disabled the microphone. Shortly after doing that, a message popped up saying that since the mic was off, Voice Rec couldn't work properly.


Seriously, Microsoft? Even though I turned Voice Rec OFF in the Settings, and completely disabled my laptop's mic, Windows was STILL trying to force Voice Rec to run?


First, I do not want Microsoft deciding when Voice Recognition is turned on.


Second, why is it running when it shows as turned off?


These things should NEVER, NEVER happen. I do not want this to happen again.


What do I do to make sure it doesn't?

• Press Windows+X key on the keyboard
• Click on control panel
• Select speech recognition
• On the left hand pane you will see Advance speech option

How to turn off Speech recognition in Windows 10?

Follow the steps to turn off speech recognition in Windows 10

• Click Start then type: Change text to speech options in search bar.
• Hit enter.
• Select the Speech Recognition tab
• Under 'User Settings' uncheck 'Run speech recognition at startup'
• Click Apply and OK
