Windows keeps updating my USB drivers to USB 3.0 and causes to make my computer unusable.

Hello! I own a refurbished DELL OptiPlex 960 and I have been experiencing this problem ever since last week or so. For the first time it happened, I managed to use my drawing tablet to update my USB drivers to a compatible driver. The second time it happened, everything was non-functional so I had to hard-reset my computer. The third time it happened, it happened recently it did the same thing as the second time. I think this happens because my computer was manufactured in 2011 according to the system information program when I checked the BIOS date and Windows automatically updates my USB 2.0 drivers to USB 3.0 drivers which it doesn't support. Then, I have to hard-reset my computer to revert the updates. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to fix it? I literally had unsaved data for school, but luckily, MediBang Paint had a backup file for my art for school and I managed to restore the file.

    :)

  2. February Windows 10 Update Causing Loss of USB and Blue Screens!

As posted over at Computer World, the February Windows 10 patch for the fall creators update to version 1709 is causing serious crashes and loss of USB.

When most everyone is using USB ports for their mouse and keyboard, this will render them inoperable.

Best case is to uninstall the Feb update:

    Windows 10 USB 3 issues

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description flash drive (USB 3 device) is not working on your computer after upgrading to Windows 10.

I understand that the USB device is not getting detected by your computer. The issue may arise if the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or corrupt or if your PC requires an update for issues that may conflict
with a USB device and Windows. This may also occur if your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt. So, I would suggest you to try the following steps and check if the issue persists.

    Method 1:

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers.

    • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows key + X and select
device manager from the list. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • In the list of hardware categories, find and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click
Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    • Restart the computer, and let the USB controllers get reinstalled.
    • Plug in the removable USB device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

    Method 2

The issue could be if the drivers are not updated or get corrupted. So, try to install all of the Windows updates available and if issue persists, try to update the Display drivers by following the steps provided in the article mentioned below.

      Device manager from the list.
    • Expand the USB section.
    • Find the USB device.
    • Right click USB and select Uninstall.
    • Select the check box delete the driver software for this device.
