Windows 10: windows key does not bring up a list of programs how do I get them back

After upgrading to windows 10, I can't open start menu everything else is working superfine, but the start menu doesn't work even if pressing the Windows button on keyboard or start button on the Windows taskbar ​

my list of programs that came up when you press the windows key are now missing how to I get them back

:)

 

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.

 

Only 3 items listed in Programs and Features after installing Windows 10

This issue may happen due to system file corruption. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow
the below given steps:

  Press Windows key + X, select
  Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
  
• 
  In Command prompt type
  sfc/scannow and press enter.
  
• 
  Restart the computer.
  

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps to employ the DISM command lines:

• 
  Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  
• 
  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

• 
  Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

Missing list of programs

I understand that, you have an issue with computer performance displaying installed program list in Programs and Features.

  Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
  

This issue may be caused due to damaged/corrupted Windows system files.

Let us run SFC scan and see if it brings any difference.

Step 1: System File Checker

The sfc /scannow (System File Checker) command scans all protected system files, and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

• 
  Press ‘Windows + X’ keys.
  
• 
  Click on ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’ to bring up an elevated command prompt.
  
  Note: Click ‘Yes’ if it prompts for permission.
  
• 
  In the command prompt type in the following command and then press
  Enter.
  

sfc /scannow

Step 2: Let us try to create a local user
account in Windows 10 and check if the issue persist.

You may also check in the Windows.old folder, and see if you find the installed programs.
