  1. Windows key is tied to a University email account

    Hi all,

TL;DR: My old Windows key is tied to a University email account that I no longer have access to and I am unable to reactivate my Windows 10 now after a clean install. Is there any way of proving my purchase or somehow retrieving the old key?

This all started when I updated to the latest Windows 10 update.

I turned on my computer and tried to login with a known good password (never changed) and I was presented with the prompt "you can't sign in with this account". Also, administrator rights were stripped from the single account that was on the PC.

Because admin rights were stripped and I was unable to login, I could not access command prompt, reverting back to previous versions, etc. I had actual MS customer service on the line confirming that I wasn't doing anything abnormal and that yes, Windows is locked for good.

The technician explained to me that I would be unable to recover the PC and that I need to install a fresh Windows 10 OS. I would lose my programs, but I should have all of my data present (which I already backed up the week prior; no big deal).

I got a fresh USB key, loaded the Windows 10 Installer, and started fresh with my (sorta) new PC. Now, I am getting a "We can't activate Windows without a product key" error. I spoke to customer service a second time and she told me to just buy another Windows Pro copy.

I should also state: I built the PC from scratch and bought a genuine digital Windows 10 and activated it with the key alone. This account was tied to my old University email address and I am unable to access that email since the account literally doesn't exist anymore since I graduated in 2016.

Are there any other options that the community has found to recover a key that I once had access to? It's a little crazy to me that a Windows update can lock me out of my own PC and cause me to buy another copy of Windows.

Morally, am I allowed to pirate Windows now???

User account now has wrong microsoft email tied to it

Hello vexorg, Windows key is tied to a University email account :)

You might check using step 3 in Option Two of the tutorial below to see if your son's email is listed under your "Email & app accounts". If so, deleting it will remove it.

    Unauthorized Emails from my account?

It is more than likely that your email account was hacked, either by a virus sniffing your password, or just simply hacked.

Either way, change your password on your email account. Unfortunately the damage by already be done. They already have your contact list and your email address associated with that contact list. There is nothing stopping them from sending out emails using their own SMTP servers to everyone on your contact list and claiming the emails are from your email address. They don't actually have to have access to your yahoo account or even any yahoo server to send emails to people that come from your address.

Windows key is tied to a University email account

Bitlocker Recovery Key with university email

I used a university email to sign into Windows 10 on my personal device and needed to take the laptop to a repair shop. They needed the Bitlocker recovery key to get out of a repair loop, but when I signed in with the Azure account, it signs me in, and
lists the device, but there is no bitlocker key on the website. I contacted my university IT department and they told me to contact Microsoft because they do not keep bitlocker recovery keys for personal devices. I couldn't find a support page or number on
the bitlocker page so I am coming here for any help possible. Thank you.
