Windows 10: Windows Keys linked to microsoft account

I recently built a new computer. When I installed windows, I chose "I do not have a product key" and planned to buy one later. However, after signing into windows, I realized that my computer was activated, and when I checked the activation background section, I discovered it was activated using my microsoft account.


As background, I have three other computers with windows on them, besides the new one I just built, for 4 in total. One was a tablet laptop, with windows pre installed and activated. THe other one was a refurbished laptop, with a key sticker on the bottom which I typed in. The third was a desktop with a windows key sticker on it, which I also used.


The tablet computer has not been booted up in probably almost 6 months, the old desktop pc was partially gutted and its hard drive, gpu, and psu are in the new pc, but had been booted up and used about 3 hours before the new pc was built. The laptop is currently in use as I type this.


How does microsoft account windows activation work? Where did the windows activation for the newly built computer come from? DOes it just take a key from the least used device? Can the windows activation from all three devices be transferred? Only the ones with sticker codes? If I boot upone of the unused computers, will they be deactivated? Or can I use them all, but only three at a time, because I only have three keys?

Cannot link/add my Microsoft Account to Local Account

Hello Ken,

Im using Win10 Build 1607 with all latest update.

I also run all related troubleshooters:

• Windows Update
• Store Apps (says i have to login in my microsoft account but thats the problem, i can't)
• Microsoft Accounts

No Problem found. Also the suggestions from Microsoft didnt helped.

 

Remove Microsoft linked account in Windows 10

This question refers to steps 3 and 4 in the thread How to rename the User folder in Windows 10?

The troublesome steps are:

3) Remove original Microsoft linked account

4) Link local account to Microsoft account if you wish

I was stuck on those 2 steps. I couldn't find a way in Windows 10 to remove the Microsoft account.

Any ideas?
