Windows 10: Windows Live Essentials

Does anyone know if Microsoft is going to replace Windows Live Essentials as I heard on a cnet message forum administrator that Microsoft will no longer offer that suite or programs?

I used to use Windows Live Writer to blog but I needed more features, especially with uploading a set of pictures to a gallery in a post as if it were being uploaded to WordPress' gallery themselves.

Windows Live Mail and Live Writer have been awesome and since Windows Live Messenger was replaced by Skype, is it possible for Microsoft to replace Live Writer, Live Mail and other Live products?

Is Microsoft Live Essentials necessary with Windows 10?

I'm asking about Windows Live Essentials, not Security Essentials. I don't use Live, Live Mail, Live Movie Maker, or Live Photo Gallery. I'd like to remove Windows Live Essentials if it is not needed to make some room on my hard drive. Thanks!

 

I heard a while back that MS was dropping the "Live" branding on their products and I think they were re branding a lot of stuff with the "MSN" brand. Time will tell.

I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me if they discontinued Windows Live Essentials due to their stupid obsession with 'Apps'. If they do, Windows Live Mail will be a big loss and it'll also mean there won't be a simple and convenient way to back-up emails, calendar and contacts locally. Someone I know has managed to accidently delete/overwrite some older emails they wanted to keep a couple of times recently. Recuva couldn't recover them and they were gone from the cloud too, so if it wasn't for local backups they'd have been gone for good.

Yerp, I noticed a while ago that Microsoft changed the built-in store apps names in the firewall exceptions they automatically create. It keeps it all tidier I suppose, as it's now all the M's (well, except Skype and Video).

That's for sure. I use it all the time. But let's hope for the best because the alternatives like Camtasia are more work.

Not to worry, for I'm sure they will replace all the MLE programs with Store apps that are in fact better IMO. They already have Defender, Mail, and Skype.

Step right up! Step right up to get an alternative movie maker while it's free. Just type "movie maker" in the Store search to get it. Always read the reviews. This one has mixed ones.

(Camtasia Studio that is) I got Camtasia for free. Normally I think it costs $300. It is an excellent program but Movie Maker is easier for the layman. Another good one (in terms of quality) is Microsoft Expression Encoder 4. But you need a special engineering degree to handle that one and $200 to buy it.

 

Live mail/Essentials is a standalone desktop program. In my case, I use it through my ISP mail address.. Even if they discontinue to support it, it will still be fully functional.

As far as loss of data is concerned. I have a separate folder, in a secure place on my computer, called Mailbox. If ever I am obliged to reinstall the OS, or subsequently, Live Mail, I redirect to that folder, in the advanced settings, and it automatically acquires all of the previous information. Deleted, sent, etc.. Even the calendar bookmarks. Only exception being the log in password.

My contacts are exported as they progress, also to the same folder, but are, nevertheless, available on my MS live login.

 

I installed Windows Live Mail on my version of 10, just didn't like the version of Mail that was on there I couldn't do all I wanted on it.

 

I've recently switched to Outlook 2013. Still needs polish though.

I've missed Movie Maker being stripped from windows 10 so that's good to know one will be available on the store soon! Hope it's not too long to wait
