Windows 10: Windows mail app crashes when using Edge share feature

Discus and support Windows mail app crashes when using Edge share feature in Windows 10 Software and Apps to solve the problem; I use the “share” feature of the Edge browser to mail links to other people.     Windows mail app crashes when using Edge share feature


    I use the “share” feature of the Edge browser to mail links to other people.



    My mail is Windows mail app. The mail app uses outlook.com msn.com mail address. I do not have the outlook app on my computer.



    After one or two shares, the Windows mail app crashes and this share function no longer works. The share screen freezes and the share cannot be completed.



    Reliability monitor shows:

    “HxOutlook.exe stopped responding”



    The only workaround for this is to share with the mail app closed.



    This happened for years with the legacy Edge browser. It continued happening after upgrade to the new Edge browser. It has happened on Win 10 version 1909 and many preceding versions.



    It is repeatable. Starts to happen after one or two successful shares, then succeeding shares do not work.



    Happens on two different computers with different users and mail accounts all of which use outlook as the server-side mail service.



    Does anyone else have this problem?

    Edge starts then crashes

    Thanks for the suggestions. The first suggestion runs but doesn't fix the problem. The second is not applicable because Edge is not in the list of Apps.

    Windows mail app crashing when using the search feature

    I am using the mail app and have several email accounts. My mail works fine in my gmail account and has all functionality. However when I go to use the search feature on my gsuite account, it causes my mail app to crash.

    I have run the troubleshooting and then I get the following:

    Issues Found

    Hanging or crashing apps Not fixed

    Reset hanging or crashing apps Completed

    I'm not sure if I need to do something to fix this problem but I don't know how and my mail is still crashing when I try and search or when I go to one of my folders and try to search in the folder.

    In order for us to identify the reason why Windows 10 Mail app is crashing when emptying a folder, we'd like to get the following information:

    • Have you made any recent changes or applied an update to your device prior to this issue?
    • Are you getting any error messages or error codes? If yes, send us a screenshot.
    • What happens when you try emptying a different folder? Does the same issue occur?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

    For initial troubleshooting, we suggest emptying a folder in Windows 10 Mail app using the steps provided in the article below and then check if the same issue will persist:
