Windows 10: Windows Mail app is syncing the entire inbox as unread

I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 11, when I have synced my 5 webmail email accounts it has downloaded every single email in each inbox as unread, which is thousands!I have used Windows Mail for years successfully on my desktop and previous laptop. I have deleted the accounts and re-added them all 3 times, 'repaired' the app, reset the app and uninstalled it, as well as restarting the laptop but the Mail app won't give me the correct amount of unread emails.Also when I log into my webmail website, my genuine new emails that I have opened in the Mail app, are showing as unread on the w

Windows Mail app search within unread only

Hello,

In Windows 10 Mail app how can I search in Unread messages only? I know how I can filter Unread only, using the drop down list. But as soon as I enter a term to search in the search box, my choice in the drop down list changes to "inbox", and the only options
in the drop down list are now Search Inbox or Search all folders.

So how can I search within the unread messages only?

Can I make the email app default to the unread mail folder?

I would like the email app to default to the unread mail list on opening, is this possible?

Also when I view an email and return to the list it does not update the unread list, unless I return to the full inbox view and then back to the unread list.

Is there a real professional email app available or is this toy app the only one we get to use?

 

Windows 10 Mail App - does not show content of Inbox

Using Windows 10 Mail App:

I can sync my mail folders (including sending e-mails), but for the Inbox the Mail App says "Nothing yet..." and there are no e-mails there.

If I go online via a web browser and move one of the e-mail from the Inbox to a sub-folder -- it appears in the sub folder in the Mail App also...

If I use Outlook I see all mails - also the ones in the inbox.

I have removed the account and created it again in the Mail App.

I suggest you to un-install and re-install the mail client and check. Follow the below steps to un-install the app.

1. Type Windows in the search box and right click on Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
   
2. Type get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage on the PowerShell and hit Enter.
   

Once you un-install the app install it form the Windows store.)
