Windows 10: Windows Mail not working properly since 20H2 update

I am running Windows 10 Home 20H2, OS Build 19042.685

Since the 20H2 update every time I open Windows Mail App it ramps the fans up, but task manager displays 0% for all tabs

When the app opens, emails will load but then freeze and this happens 90% of the time! If the mail app does manage to work it will load a few emails before being stuck in a constant state of loading previews of an email


I have reset the app

Uninstalled the app


Lately, I have just been forced to email from my ipad which isn't ideal


Any help or tips greatly appreciated

I suggest you to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Follow these steps to run Windows Update troubleshooter:

• Type troubleshooting in the search bar and select it.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Windows Update troubleshooter.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
• Check if issue persists.

Step 3:

I suggest you to check if the services responsible for Windows update is running. Refer to these steps:

• Press Windows key +R, type “services.msc”
• Locate the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the
  Windows Update Services and check if it is running.
• If not, right click on the service and click start to start the service.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to

• When you say that "mail ending in outlook.com", have you configured new Oultook.com
• How many account are configured in the Mail app?
• Is the email address in the Mail app as same as Microsoft Account with which you have logged in?
• Are you logged in as Microsoft Account or Local Account?
• When you say that "my old mail from this account", have you configured as POP 3 or IMAP account in the Windows Live Mail?

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
