I am beyond upset right now. I am not a novice user. Ive been working with Windows OS since it first came out. I even went to school for my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Cert. I launched the program. It did the normal stuff. Asked me where my USB drive was an

Just trying to understand exactly what you are doing.

• You have downloaded the Media Creation Tool to your hard drive. (is this correct)
• You run the Media Creation Tool then select Another PC and at the end select ISO image instead of USB. (is this correct)
• You then select the USB flash drive as the location for the ISO image. (is this correct)

If the last statement is correct then why not just select the USB and create a bootable flash drive. You can use that for a repair install or clean install. You may need it anyway.

How much space is available on the internal drive as there will be a minimum requirement for that too.

You do not need to manually choose a format for that USB disk, the Media Creation Tool will automatically format the drive to the correct format, the process is automatic, you just run the tool and let it do its job . . .

recently, I have searched about this error regarding the Media Creation Tool and USB pen drive creation but none of the
solutions found were good for me: reformatting USB drive to FAT32, start the media tool from the USB drive itself, disable USB Selective Suspend via Power Options, create am ISO image and use Rufus, and so on. My Microsoft Surface
didn't want to create a bootable USB: I've spend a week and will have tried 20 times at least. To my surprise, my old HP laptop did it at first time instead. Why ????? (At now I don't know).

My first step was to examine the setupact.log file that the Media Creation Tool has created: the error was from the CDIpActionLayoutUsb:repareUsbMedia which by the way did not appear in the other file (???). The
logic told me that the problem was in the pen drive format: partition, disk, volume ? In short, the Format command and the Disk Management tool didn't seem to work and after much test the solution was the DiskPart Windows tool. Here is how to insert it into
the procedure:

• Attach a formatted USB pen to the PC;
• Start the Media Creation Tool, do the all steps until the download of the files starts (You must select first the USB pen disk);
• And now the magic DiskPart tool:
  • start it;
  • By the LIST VOLUME command identifies the volume of the USB pen and remember the attached number;
  • Select it by the SELECT VOLUME <number>
    ;
  • Now use the command CLEAN
  • Enjoy the end;

I don't know why, by this last command permits the Media Creation Tool to complete and create the bootable USB pen correctly. I've tried the procedure 3 times and all works well.

I hope this helps all users that has an headache with the Media Creation Tool.
