Windows 10: Windows Media Player 12 will not play audio files

I have a problem with Windows Media Player 12 not playing any audio files.


My Windows version is


Windows 10 home

Build 17763.rs5_release.180914-1434


I use the 64 bit version of Windows.


I have another computer with the same exact windows version, build and release. It plays audio files just fine.


Groove music on the computer with the issue plays audio files just fine.


I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player with no success.


Any idea what the problem is?

Music CD's won't play on Media Player 12

Media Player 12 does not recognize the codec for my cd's when I load they are loaded and the play list generated.

This is the error message I received:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

I checked the list of codecs so this shouldn't be an issue.

can someone tell me why windows media player 12 wont play youtube video's, it plays the
audio side but not the video of it..

I had windows media player 11 in before the windows 10 update and now media player wont
play the videos only audio..

need help here...

and from the last link is the same error where you can just disable it too =)
