Windows 10: Windows media player and file explorer keep "not responding"

Windows media player and file explorer keep "not responding". I have restarted many times and windows 10 has restarted many times. "Help" section said to uninstall video compression and showed "step by step" instructions however, when I followed their steps it show different results "go to settings point at something and click control panel". I can watch music videos and online videos just fine but video I have on my hard drive play for a bit then "buffer" then play and finally stop all together.

I have Windows 10 ver. 20H2? My pc is quite old but my new one is another issue.

Faulty Windows Media Player

Windows Mesdis Player developed a fault (Played jerky an missed bits) so I down loaded Media Player 10.

It's no better. Any suggestions (I run Windows 98)

What is the exact error message you get when you to try play files on Windows Media Player?

I suggest you to run both Windows Media Player Library and Settings troubleshooter and check.
