Windows 10: Windows media player can't play/rip new audio cd's

Discus and support Windows media player can't play/rip new audio cd's in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; I've been having trouble playing and ripping audio cd's with windows media player recently. My computer will recognize the cd and Windows media player... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware' started by SebastienSasseville, Sep 3, 2018.

  1. Windows media player can't play/rip new audio cd's

I've been having trouble playing and ripping audio cd's with windows media player recently. My computer will recognize the cd and Windows media player will have all the information (Artist, album, song titles, etc), but when I try to play the cd, the songs will not play and just skip to the next track every second (No sound plays, it just acts as if the tracks were unplayable). The same thing happens when trying to rip the cd. This only seems to happen to newer cd's, as second hand cd's will play and rip just fine.

Curiously though, cyberlink Power DVD will play the cd.

    EDIT:

I have found a fairly easy workaround, although not a complete solution.

Since other programs can read the cd, I brought the cd up in Exact Audio Copy and was able to read it. From there I just exported the files uncompressed and then could open them up with WMP and do as I please with them. It still doesn't explain why my WMP can't read cd's, but it's allowing me to get my music into mp3 format at least..

    :)
